Background

Using OERs could improve the availability and technical quality of pedagogical materials and course coherence in Higher Education. Hence, through the implementation of the “Open Educational Resources (OER) for Libya” project, UNESCO believes that Libya will be provided with a strategic opportunity to improve the quality of higher education.  

Through the implementation of this project, UNESCO will ensure that OERs becomes a long term solution in Libyan Higher Education institutions through:

  • a situational analysis of the use/potential of OER in the Libyan education system, with a focus on higher education
  • ensuring widespread awareness of OER of decision-makers at the governmental and higher education institution levels, higher education teaching staff, students and other educational stakeholders
  • capacity building of higher education teaching personnel on the use/re-use and sharing of OER for their professional practice; and
  • the development of a Libyan Community of Practice of Higher Education Teaching Personnel focusing on the use of OER for higher education in Libya

The main objective of the project is to provide Libyan stakeholders with the knowledge and skills necessary to sustainably develop and use OERs to support quality learning and teaching in Libyan higher education institutions.

Motivation for Attendees

This workshop should appeal to beneficiaries developing the OER being discussed and other stakeholders  This workshop will also appeal to colleagues interested in  participating in the development and sharing of Arabic OER for Higher Education.

Workshop Purpose

This workshop intends to set up a ‘Libyan Network', a network OER practitioners from participating institutions who will model best practice and share it effectively with others.

The objective of this event will be:

  • Share best practices in the implementation of the OER course in Lybian universities.
  • Advise and offer staff capacity building to support OER initiatives including:
    • Use of the OER competencies framework;
    • Finding, selecting and adapting OER;
    • Deploying a learning management system: administrators, courseware developers, online facilitators etc.
    • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of the OER developed,
  • Review and revise dissemination action plan to support the use of OER.

Who Should Attend?

  • Representatives of 18 Libyan Higher Education Institutions participating in the Libyan OER Network, Institutional and Governmental Representatives.
  • Colleagues interested in participating in the development and sharing of Arabic OER for Higher Education.
